Let us be honest - one of the joys of visiting Port Townsend that is it is on the way to nowhere. It sits on the tip of a little peninsula on a big peninsula on the remote northwestern-most corner of the United States. Unless you're a local or have a GPS, you'll be wanting directions for getting here. And if you're crossing the Sound on a ferry, you should brush up on your Ferry Etiquette.
